TUTORS are highly experienced musicians who have performed all over the world. They are skilled teachers seeking to inspire, challenge and have fun whilst catering for all abilities. The Workshops will be lead by Reely Jiggered’s Alison McNeill (Fiddle & Voice) & Fiona McNeill (Guitar).
Alison McNeill graduated with a Masters from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2013 with scholarships from the RCS Trust and ABRSM. She has performed as a soloist all over the UK, Holland, Spain, Austria, Japan, America and Mexico. Alison has been broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 3, Radio nan Gael and Spanish and Mexican TV. As a specialist in Spanish Song, Alison is the 2012 Winner of the Andres Segovia prize for Spanish Song and is the only non-native speaker to win this award. Alison has studied with the famous mezzo Teresa Berganza in Spain and premiered new works by Spain’s leading composers in the National Auditorium of Galicia, Atheneum in Madrid and Manuel de Falla Auditorium in Granada. Alison is also a fine exponent of Celtic Music and has performed at many prestigious events including Celtic Connections. She is Director of FOLK for FOLK Festival and is lead singer and fiddle player in the Scottish Folk Rock band Reely Jiggered who are the 2014 Winners of the O2 ABC SoundWave Music Competition.
As an experienced teacher Alison inspires singers and fiddlers of all ages and abilities. She is currently vocal coach for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Junior Chorus and Inverclyde Junior Choir as well as conducting Primary Choirs and directing Heritage Workshops. Her teaching has been praised in FiddleOn Magazine “Alison is a demon – in every sense of the word. She plays superbly in a variety of styles and sings like an angel. She has a natural ability to teach, finding that very clever balance between not letting you get away with anything shoddy whilst avoiding too much pressure and seriousness . . . . Your inhibitions seem to melt away as a result of her patience, firmness and humour.” www.alisonmcneill.com
Whilst Fiona McNeill has a Master of Arts degree in Theology from Glasgow University, her true passion in life is music. Fiona has been a guitarist for over a decade and performs in the award winning folk rock band Reely Jiggered who released their second album “Kaleidoscope” last year to critical acclaim. “such a stunning collection of music by the most talented of musicians. It’s a while since I’ve been so excited about an album that I feel will live forever…” Alan Grant, Celtic Music Radio
Fiona has helped develop and deliver Scottish heritage workshops in schools in Scotland and Japan to promote Scottish music and history. Fiona’s guitar skills have taken her to top venues and countries including Japan, Mexico and Germany, and all over the UK. She is a freelance reporter for her own “Celtic & Folk Fusions” radio show and has interviewed the likes of Donnie Munro and Donald Shaw to name a few.
